Why We Focus on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Instead of Aikido
Aikido: A Beautiful Art with a Different Purpose
Aikido is widely admired for its flowing movements, philosophy, and emphasis on harmony and balance. It is elegant, artistic, and often appreciated for improving coordination and body awareness.
Aikido training is typically practiced in cooperative, pre-arranged scenarios. While this approach develops movement and sensitivity, it does not consistently expose students to fully resisting opponents. Real confrontations — whether in sport or self-defence — are dynamic, chaotic, and uncooperative.
Because of this difference in training methodology, Aikido does not reliably develop the timing, pressure management, and stress-tested decision-making that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is known for.
Why Hayabusa Chooses a Different Focus
At Hayabusa, we prioritize training methods that are:
• ✔ Pressure-tested against resistance
• ✔ Proven through live sparring
• ✔ Validated in competition and real-world application
• ✔ Measurable, progressive, and repeatable
While Aikido is a respected discipline, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu aligns far more closely with our performance-based philosophy.
